If you look back at the beginning of the Internet you notice that it has changed a lot since then. Back in the days single users provided the bulk of the information with little to no option to interact with those information. Feedback or comments were usually submitted by email or in web forums but never directly on the page the information was presented on.
Social networking websites such as Facebook or MySpace emerged in the last years. Some say that the advanced in Internet connection and computer systems made these networks possible. These networks brought together millions of users who could now share information and data on the websites without the need to understand html or another web programming language.
Every user can make an account at Facebook which can then be found by other Facebook users. It is possible to receive friend requests and send them out as well. You are then actively taking part in the virtual life of your friends by receiving status updates, pictures, links and other information that they post or receive. This makes it easy to keep up with the life of friends that you do not visit or meet every day.
Security and privacy options have been added to Facebook over time to provide users with better security and privacy on the website. It is for instance possible to hide an account so that it cannot be found by other Facebook users. The remaining functionality on the other hand would still be accessible including the ability to search for and add friends to that account.
While the main benefit is the ease which you can post pictures and text, one of the more exciting features of Facebook is the ability to play various games on the site, and even battle against your friends for the high score. You can invite friends to play games with you, and even message them that you’ve beaten their score! It makes it easy for a group of friends to have fun competing against each other in a variety of games ranging from Tetris, to Scrabble and many more.
Facebook also has many quizzes that you can take, about a variety of subjects ranging from ‘Which of the Seven Dwarfs are You?’ to ‘What Political Party most Suits You?’. The quizzes are made by the users, so there’s almost an infinite variety to choose from! As with the games, you can send your results to all of your friends if you so choose. You could even invite them to take the quiz, and compare your results with all of your friends.
Facebook originally targeted college students to provide them a way to keep in contact with mates and fellow students who moved to another college or finished they study. Interest from other groups picked up fairly soon and today’s Facebook combines a mixture of every group of the general population from teenagers to grandparents and everything in between. It is still used by many college students to keep up to date with their families.
Overall, Facebook allows you to safely keep in contact with friends, relatives, children, and anyone that you would wish to talk to. You can share pictures with your friends, play games against them, or do a vast variety of other fun activities. It’s what all social networks should be – easy to use, secure, and best of all, fun!
